A crown is used when the \u00a0visible part of the tooth ,known as the crown, \u00a0 has been damaged and is not able to be restored by other methods. A porcelain crown is used to encase the entire tooth and restore it to its original shape and size.<\/p>\n
This treatment will take two separate appointments. At the first appointment the tooth is prepared for the crown by having all decay removed and remaining surfaces shaped. Then a mold of the tooth is taken and sent to the lab to create your custom crown. You will leave with a temporary crown and will return a second time two weeks later to have the permanent crown placed. Crowns are durable and may last several years but on occasion they will need replacement.<\/p>\n
